Abstract
The approach of Total Quality Management (TQM) to involve all employees in an organisation to achieve and sustain customer satisfaction and improving the performance of the organisation is briefly described. It includes employee involvement, process control, continuous improvement, customer satisfaction, design for quality, supplier development, employee training and a data driven culture. However, with mechanical engineering manufacturing organisation, this approach is difficult to implement in the New Product Development (NPD) process. With NPD, design changes, new quality attributes and longer leadtimes present difficulties in implementing TQM in the organization. A model has been proposed on how to implement TQM practices in NPD to improve its performance based on the key principles of TQM.
